No. 3 Texas Easily Send No. 8 Kentucky in 67-49 Victory at Lexington

No. 3 Texas women showed no shutdown after their big win last Sunday over No. 2 South Carolina. Longhorns claimed against No. 8 Kentucky and won 67-49 in Lexington on Thursday night.

The defeat was Wildcats’ first in 13 games at home this season. They fell to 8-3 in SEC games and 19-4 overall.

Maybe reinforced at first, Texas missed several shots to begin the game and were also called for more offensive mistakes while trying to push its advantage in frontcourt. As a result, Kentucky remained close to the opening 10 minutes and pulled 16-14. Wildcats even took a 20-17 lead with 7:54 back in the second quarter.

From there, however, Longhorns knocked down and Kentucky overpowered close to the basket. Kyla Oldacre scored 13 points in the first half and got Wildcats’ Clara Strack and Teonni key in early bad problems.

Strack stepped out with 9:14 back in the game and ended without points, four rebounds and two blocks in a tough matchup versus Oldacre. Key did better, only occasionally drawn the defensive task at the Texas Center. She scored 12 points with 10 rebounds. Georgia Amoore led Kentucky with 14 points, while Dazia Lawrence added 11.

Longacre ended with 19 points and matched Madison booker for the game -high scoring sum. Booker did not register his first basket to Longhorns before the 1:09 mark in the second quarter, but scored Texas’ last six points in the first half. She added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Taylor Jones also grabbed eight boards, while Longacre followed seven.

Longhorns released Wildcats, 42-27, including an 18-5 advantage on the offensive boards. It resulted in 21 second chance for Texas compared to eight for Kentucky.

Texas improved to 25-2 overall and maintains first place in SEC with an 11-1 conference mark. Longhorn’s next host No. 5 LSU (25-1, 10-1) Sunday at. 15 ET, Longhorns’ fourth matchup in a row against a top-25 opponent. Kentucky hosts Georgia (10-15, 2-9) Sunday at. 14.00 ET.
