Will the IRS treasures be affected by Trump’s revision? What to know

President Donald Trump’s extensive clamping down of federal bureaucracy has now arrived at the Internal Revenue Service-but will it affect the supply of tax fusions?

Why it matters

At least one member of the Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DODE) visited the IRS offers in Washington, DC, on Thursday, according to a report from Reuters. Musk has led President Trump’s revision of federal processes with redundancies already made in several departments.

What to know

Although there is no confirmation that taxation fusions may be affected by the Doge’s audit, legislators have raised concern that it could delay taxpayers’ owed money. Newsweek has contacted the IRS via E -Mail for comment.

“My office hears that DOGE is now on the IRS. That means Musk’s henchmen are able to dig through a trove of data about any taxpayer in America,” the democratic senator Ron Wyden wrote in a Thursday post on xFormer Twitter. “And if your refund is delayed, they could very well be the reason.”

Gavin Kliger, a key member of Elon Musk’s team who worked to reform the federal government, visited the IRS on Thursday to review his operations, according to two sources familiar with the case.

Kliger met with Senior IRS leaders and marked the first occurrence of a representative of DOGE that appeared at the agency’s Washington, DC, headquarters, the sources told Reuters. President Trump has also confirmed that DOGE will look at IRS systems.

After DOGE gained access to the US Department of Ministry of Finance’s payment systems in recent weeks, a group of house Democrats sent a letter to the functioning IRS commissioner who asked about the confidential information requested by DOGE from the agency and how many taxpayers’ private Data had become access to.

When does my tax refund arrive?

IRS accepts tax returns from January 27, 2025 with an archiving deadline on April 15. If you archive your return online and choose direct deposit, you can generally expect to receive your refund within 10 to 21 days after the IRS accepts your turn back with some exceptions for those who claim certain tax credits. If you choose to send a paper return, it usually takes between four to eight weeks to process.

A primary cause of delays in the IRS refund is the submission of incorrect or incomplete tax returns. Small errors, such as social security errors, income information or deduction, can ask the IRS to complete a review, resulting in the treatment of Holdups.

What people say

President Donald Trump said Thursday 13th February: “I think the internal income service will be looked at like everyone else; almost everyone will be looked at. They are (DOGE) doing a hell of a job; it’s a great job they are doing.”

Lisa Gilbert, Copresident of Public Citizen, a proponent of consumer rights, told USA Today: “When Americans interface with government, there is a law in place, a privacy law that has to exclude people from seeing it or using it for anything but (processing) these payments. And it is so incredibly problematic to think of a non -Helved billionaire and his team have access to it, could see it or change it.
