Met Office has declared that it is “almost certain” that a sudden stratospheric warming will hit Britain in mid -March, which potentially brings a cold snap to Britain.

A spokesman for the meteorological service told GB News: “The stratosphere Polar Vortex is now weakening rapidly.”

“Over the past few days, the forecasts have become very safe and we are almost sure that there will be a sudden stratospheric warming in mid -March. This is when the middle stratospheric wind is expected to return from western to eastern.”

Temperatures are expected to throw themselves when the weather phenomenon grabs the country.

The spokesman explained that about 70 percent of sudden stratospheric warming events lead to cold conditions with eastern winds over Northern Europe and Britain.

A sudden stratospheric warming occurs when the layer between 10 and 50 km above the earth’s surface is heated by 50 degrees in just two days.

This scientific phenomenon weakens the polar vertebra, which is a large area of low pressure and cold air rotating around the soil poles.

When weakened, the vortex allows freezing Arctic air to move south, which often brings extreme weather conditions.

The polar velvy corresponds to the jet stream eight to 11 km above the earth’s surface.

Met Office has stated that there is “now signs of this in the forecast and the risk of a cold snap later in March increases.”

This will be the second Polar Vortex breakdown in 2025, after February’s event that caused deep freezers over North America.

Accuweather’s main meteorologist Paul Pastelok told The Independent: “We predict a shift of the polar vortex on Europe and eastern Canada side of the polar.”

The timing is still uncertain, but experts suggest that the pattern change could arrive at the end of March to early April. Parts of the US and Canada are already preparing for falling temperatures.
