How bucks’ trading deadline moves changed lane

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kyle Kuzma show the course to Bucks’ new look-lineup.

Before the trade deadline, Milwaukee had a solid 27-22 record that ranked No. 5 in the east. But for a team that looked at the NBA final, “Solid” wasn’t enough. With MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo and All-Star Damian Lillard, expectations were much higher.

The trade deadline provided an opportunity to make the necessary adjustments to put them on a path to greater success. The goal was to become younger and more athletic, and the acquisitions of Kyle Kuzma, Kevin Porter Jr. And Jericho Sims did just that.

Bucks are 9-3 since the trade deadline. The infusion of athletics has enabled them to play faster and improve defensively. During their last 12 games, they have been the second fastest team in the league and received an extra 2.23 belongings per year. 48 minutes. Defensively, especially when Sims joined the rotation, they rank like a top three team over their last eight matches.

Kuzma’s size and length has been a challenge for opponents. Whether he is fighting through screens or blocking driving lanes, he has defensively delivered relentless energy. Sims is fast on the feet and can defend anywhere everywhere on the floor. He can remain in front of the guards on the perimeter and protect the edge when needed. Porter Jr. is a disturbance with an ability to jump passing lanes, create stealing and deflections and transform the defense into easy violation.

While their biggest effects have been on defense, they also contribute offensively. Kuzma’s constant movement makes him a threat that cuts into the field for light buckets from the attention, Lillard and Antetokounmpo -U decided. Sims may not score much himself, but his strong screen setting and ability to scroll to the basket creates opportunities for others. Porter Jr. Provides immediate violation from the bench capable of generating his own shot or establishing teammates.

A month later, Milwaukee is # 4 in the east with a 36-25 record and winners of four equal. Only time will show whether this team can continue to improve when they build chemistry, or whether opponents will find out how to meet this new look bucks team. Currently, Bucks is climbing the position and proves why the opposition should fear the deer.

See the renewed bucks in action again Saturday against Orlando Magic (8 ET, NBA League Pass).
