Console specifications and TECH Q&A

Hi all together,

After revealing more about Our PC specificationsWe are happy to share more details about what options open to our console players.

(ACS) Article - Q&A -Console Specifications - Console Specifications

We also went back to Pierre F, Technology Director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows to answer several of the questions you asked tech topics through several social platforms as well as the Ubisoft Creator program.

Question 1

Wuckforl On Reddit: In terms of performance, the PS5 and Xbox Series X -Versions have a 60 FPS mode?

Pierre F: Yes! We are pleased to confirm that the PS5 and Xbox series X both allow players to play on 60 FPS.

Shadows actually supports different performance profiles. On PS5 and Xbox Series X we offer 3 modes:

  1. Performance mode will target 60 FPS, reducing the rendering resolution and adjusting graphic settings to reach a consistent 60 fps. On both PS5 and Xbox Series X, this condition depends on our tried and baked global lighting technology.

In addition, the increased RayTracing capabilities in the PS5 Pro allow us to introduce our new RayTraced Global Illumination Technology at 60 FPS.

  2. Quality mode will target 30 FPS, leading to a higher resolution and increasing multiple reproduction systems. The pre-scaling solution is only an area where we utilize the increased GPU budget. Our Raytraced Global Illumination technology is a key element that also separates this condition, as well as improvements on draw distances, shadows, hair quality in the game, etc. …

Again, the PS5 Pro benefits from the more powerful GPU and RayTracing capacities by being the only state of console that offers raytraced reflections.

  3. The balanced mode that requires a high update speed (120 Hz) compatible screen allows a 40 FPS target that combines both previous modes into one. The balanced state basically uses the same configuration as Fidelity mode, but the UPSCALER FPS is instead 40 FPS. In practice, this leads to a minor reduction in rendering resolution compared to quality mode, but with all the other rendering system configuration untouched.

On the Xbox Series S, the game gives an experience targeting 30 FPS.

Finally, as you may have seen, Shadows introduces a fully customizable hiding place. Since the possibilities of hiding are not in any way predetermined, we cannot rely on our baked global lighting system. Thus, when the player enters the hiding place, the game automatically activates our ray -traced global lighting system, regardless of the console, and the frames are adjusted accordingly.

Question 2

From dark player: What PS5 -Pro -enhancements offer/have AC shadows? Will there be additional graphic conditions available?

We received many questions on the PS5 Pro version.

As described above, we use the same 3 graphics mode (performance, quality, balanced), but we chose to improve each of them. We felt that we had the ability to cat to different player needs by providing all the 3 states that are better experienced on the PS5 Pro.

The most notable improvements are:

  1. PERFORMANCE MODE USE RAYTRACED GLOBAL ILLUMINATION

  2. Quality and balanced state introducing raytracked reflections as well as global lighting
