Despite some early signs of resistance among Republican and Democratic Senators, Mr. Trump’s cabinet selection has been confirmed at a steady pace during his second period. The president’s nominees have been confirmed faster than his election in his first period and former President Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s election.

In a previous era, which, under the administration of President Barack Obama, was generally nominated less disputed and had to be widely appealing enough to reach a potential threshold of 60 votes in the Senate.

Following a change of rules in 2013, the nominated executive branch could be conveyed to a confirmation vote by a simple majority.

Cabinet confirmations of president since Bush

Includes only heads for executive departments

Note: This chart shows the cabinet confirmations of the first leaders serving the executive departments of each president’s first period and in President Trump’s second period. The number of executive departments has changed over time. Ranked positions at the cabinet level, such as the UN ambassador, have been excluded as they may vary by administration.
