The Senate Democrats are slaming social security job cuts, attacking musk, calling it the ‘Ponzi scheme’

The Senate Democratic leaders stood in support of social security services on Monday in the wake of the Social Security Administration’s announcement that it plans to cut 7,000 jobs as part of “significant reductions in workforce.”

“Now we know that something that we Senate Democrats have feared for a long time is fulfilling. Social security is under attack and at risk,” said Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer at a Capitol Hill News Conference.

Schumer, Senate’s Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Or., Vice-President of the Senate Appropriations Committee Sener Patty Murray, D-Wash., And Senator Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., Also at the News Conference, said Social Security Workforce cuts are The critical benefits.

“Dog’s attack on social security is, in my opinion, a first step on the road to privatizing social security,” Wyden said, referring to Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency.

The leaders also blasted Musk’s recent characterization of social security as a ‘Ponzi scheme’.

“Elon Musk says it’s a ponzi scheme. The richest man in the world tells Americans who earned benefits they depend on and they paid in is a scam. They’re not a scam. And if Americans know it,” Schumer said.

On the question of the Biden-appointed former Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley’s recent prediction that a system collapse and an interruption of benefits could come within the next 30-90 days, Murray replied that the recent cuts to workforce and offices would be a “disaster.”

“Yes, I mean when you fire these many people and close so many offices – don’t have people to write checks you’re looking for disaster,” Murray said.

A state financing connection?

When asked by Democrats, insist on preventing cuts as part of an agreement to bring a temporary funding (‘CR’ or continued decision) that were voting to keep the government open, Murray said “We look at a number of different” things relating to a financing agreement.

“I just want to say this. The only one who wants a closure right now is Elon Musk … No one else wants a closure. We all work together to get this done,” Murray said.

Murray said that the best way to finance the government and prevent a shutdown from being through a cr.

“In my opinion, the best way to do this is to make a short -lived CR. Our selection is able to get this done with this short -term CR and ready to go to work.”

She also said that the White House, which sent an “anomalier” list to Congress, was “completely inadequate” and then confirmed that the Democrats were “at the table” and “ready” to pass a short -term cr.

Work with house democrats to block cuts

Schumer referred to former President George W. Bush’s proposed cuts to social security programs in 2005 and compared his current plans to work with house members to block any rollbacks for the work he did with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid 20 years ago.

“We met. We said we have to fight it and we won. I want to tell the American people we come together, house and senate democrats, we will fight against it and guess what? We will prevent the cuts,” Schumer said.

“But we need your help,” he said. “We need any person who is a recipient or will be a recipient who would like to have this benefit to call their congressmen’s Republican Congress Member and Senators-and give a simple verdict. ‘Hands from my social security.'”

President Donald Trump and the house’s speaker Mike Johnson have insisted that Republicans will not try to reduce social security services or benefits of other legal programs.
