Ilia Topuria teases UFC fight news so big ‘you won’t believe it’

Recently, it was announced ‘El Matador’ will leave his 145 lb title to pursue lightweight nority.

It becomes officially vacant just before Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes square for the belt at UFC 314 on April 12 – but Ilia Topuria probably doesn’t mind having a match for ages.

On Thursday, Topuria MMA fans sent into Frenzy with a 10-word post on social media.

“When we advertise it, you won’t believe it. Get ready, ”he wrote at X.

Islam Makhachev is the lightweight champion and top of the list of opponents Topuria wants to meet.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protege is fresh from a quick submission gain over Renato Moicano on UFC 311 in January.

It is currently unclear who will be his next opponent as there is no obvious number a challenger of 155 kg – but Justin Gaethje or Rafael Fiziev could make a strong case when they rematch on UFC 313 on Saturday night.

A clash between Makhachev and Topuria would certainly be massive, but not a shock to fighting fans.

So we just have to wait for UFC chief Dana White to explain what his Spanish star is talking about.

What did Dana White say about Ilia Topuria’s next match so far?

When he spoke after the controversial UFC Fight Night Seattle head event between Henry Cejudo and Song Yadong, White was asked if Topuria had left the featherweight title itself or whether the UFC had removed him.

“He did it – he said,” I’ve done everything I can do here, I’m ready to move up, “and that’s why he vacated it,” the UFC administrative director explained.

“He said he should not hold any options and you know I always respect it when guys do it.”

White held his cards close to his chest as he asked a follow -up question about Topuria vs Makhachev.

He added: “There are still other options that are a lot of S – that is going on right now, otherwise I would have said (that fight is on).”
