After 14 games and 18 days, Elite One-Day International (ODI) has men’s competition extensive the world’s top eight teams whipped down to a match between the top two challengers.

India and New Zealand meet in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Sunday.

Here’s all you need to know about the big showdown:

Why does Dubai host the Champions Trophy final?

In the months that preceded Champions Trophy, ICC was in the middle of a stalemate between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI said it would not send a team to Pakistan, and although the causes were never shared in public, the political tension between both countries was understood as the cause. Meanwhile, the PCB was firm by hosting all games in Pakistan.

With less than two months back, both sides met halfway, and it was decided that in all ICC tournaments until 2031, which hosted both country, the neighboring team would play its matches in a neutral place.

Pakistan chose to host India’s matches, including the final, in Dubai.

What was India’s route to the final?

  • SEX-WICKET VIEF OVER BANGLADESH IN DUBAI
  • SEX-WICKET VIEF OVER PAKISTAN IN DUBAI
  • 44-driven victory over New Zealand in Dubai
  • Four-Wicket victory over Australia in Dubai

What was the New Zealand route to the final?

  • 60-run victory over Pakistan in Karachi
  • Five-Wicket victory over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi
  • 44-driven loss to India in Dubai
  • 50-run victory over South Africa in Lahore

Who are the players to see in the final?

  • Virat Kohli (India): The Indian Batting Store, arguably the best in Odi history, has rediscovered its running scoring form in the tournament. In addition to his peerless record in Run Chases, Kohli has a healthy average when playing against New Zealand in ODDs. His 32 matches against Blackcaps have given him six centuries and nine half a century an average of 57.1. Although Kohli only succeeded 11 races in the group a meeting between the two sides, the 36-year-old is known to save his best for the biggest games.
  • Shubman Gill (India): The world’s best-rated Odi dough began the tournament with a match-winning century across Bangladesh, and although Gill added only 57 races in the next three games, the opener will be the key to India’s laps in the final. His average of 74 and two centuries in 11 games against New Zealand makes him a player to see in the final.
  • Varun Chakravarthy (India): The Bow-Break Bowler’s return to the Indian side has left opposition chambers in a solution. Chakravarthy debuted in Champions Trophy in the group stage against New Zealand, where he took five wickets to serve the player of the match. Spinner’s variation perfectly matches India’s needs at a relatively slow Dubai tone height.
  • Kane Williamson (New Zealand): Williamson is considered one of modern cricket-batting storations, and his never-unclear hunger after races in great tournaments makes him stand out in any competition. The former Kiwi captain was his side’s top scorer in the group match against India, and his teammates hope he can add his century and 11 fifties to India.
  • Matt Henry (New Zealand): Pacer is the tournament’s leading wicket taker, but his participation in ending hangs in the balance after an injury he was inflicted while field in the semi -finals. Henry was India’s Torentor-in-Chief in the group match, and if he should play in the final, he will be Blackcaps’ biggest threat with the ball again.
  • Mitchell Santner (New Zealand): New Zealand’s captain is among the world’s top all -rounds in ODIs, and his left arm spin will be crucial to the spin -friendly traces of Dubai. Santner is a skilled dough in the lower order and has the ability to hit big shots when the need arises.

What is the key player’s match-ups for the final?

  • Gill vs Henry: The world’s leading dough vs. Tournament’s leading bowler. Henry was responsible for catching Gill early in the group match with a dipping delivery and can cause additional problems in the final if he rejects Gill cheaply again.
  • Kohli vs Santner: Kohli has rarely thrown his wicket away after settling down to the top of the order, but the leading century producer in ODIs may be susceptible to the left-arm-spin bowling. Santner’s Wily Bowling and Kohli’s Patient Batting could prove a breathtaking match in the final.
  • Williamson vs Mohammed Shami: The Indian Pacer’s return after a prolonged injury has unfolded almost perfectly as he has taken eight wickets in four games. India will rely on Shami’s experience to undo Williamson, who rarely offers any weaknesses in big games.
  • Rachin Ravindra vs Hardik Pandya: The rising star of the world’s cricket with Indian roots has been an average of 75 in the tournament, and although he was dismissed cheaply in the group match, Ravindra continues to pose a threat, one that India will hope that Pandya’s experienced pace and bounce will counter – as he did in the group match.
