Top seeded central Connecticut State Register’s 86-67 win over men’s basketball in NEC quarterfinals

New Britain, Conn.-Jaelen McGlone had 18 points from the bench to lead top-notch central Connecticut State University to an 86-67 win over the eighth seed Le Moyne College Lord’s basketball team in the northeastern conference tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday night at Detrick Gymnasium.

Redshirt Junior Forward Dwayne Koroma (Berlin, Germany/Bishop Walsh (Md.)/Iona/Salt Lake Cc/Ut Arlington) led all scorers with a career hill 24 points, including 12 in each half, while they grabbed seven rebounds and sent two steals. Sophomore guard AJ DANCLER (Indianapolis, Ind./southport) registered all 15 of his points in the first half while adding seven rebounds and a few assists. Redshirt Sophomore Forward Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, Ny/Skaneateles/Kimball Union Academy) Occurred 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

McGlone scored 11 of his career high point in the first half while adding five rebounds and two stealing. This year’s NEC player Jordan Jones recorded 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Devin Haid, an All-NEC selection of the second team, released 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Davonte Sweatman spoke 10 points and three assists.

The teams went back and forth over the opening four and a half minutes when the scoring was tied four times and the dolphins took a 13-11 lead on a three-year-old-year-old Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, va./oak Hill/Towson) with 15:21 back.

Blue Devils, who has won a nation-best 13 straight matches, followed nine straight points in 80 seconds to take the lead for good. Joe Ostrowsky buried a couple of three-pointers in the stretch around one of Jayden Brown.

After Le Moyne cut his deficit to four on a lay-up of Koroma, Jones made a jumper, and then Darin Smith, Jr. and McGlone three-pointers for a 28-16 lead with 11:04 to go.

After the curve of Koroma and Dancler, Blue Devils scored nine in a row for a 37-20 lead with 5:46 back. Sweatman made two free kicks and a lay-up, ostrowsky drained a three-pointer, and then Abdul Momoh had a can from a steal.

Koroma scored six straight points around a three-point of Haid to get the dolphins within 40-26 with 3:49 back.

Blue Devils responded with three-three-points in 72 seconds around a Dancler jumper to take a 49-28 lead with 2:23 to go. McGlone buried a few three-pointers around the Dancler curve, and then jones connected to a three-point to force a Le Moyne timeout.

The dolphins closed half with a 7-2 race to get within 51-35 at the break. Graduate student Robby Carmody (Mars, Pa./mars Area/Notre Dame/Mercer) Koroma had a free throw, had a tip-in, graduate student guard Will Amica (Syracuse, Ny/West Genesee/Ualbany) Scored in the paint and then DANCLER made two bad shots.

Le Moyne expanded his race to 15-2 with the first eight points in the second half to get within 51-43 with 16:23 back. Koroma made a presentation and then Fouts and Jones Jr. drilled three-pointers.

After Blue Devils was scoreless during the opening six minutes of the second half, the 13 of the next 15 points rattled over three and a half minutes. McGlone and Jones scored stealing, Sweatman made a lay-up and two free kicks, Haid converted three free kicks and then McGlone made a lay-up for a 64-45 lead with 10:13 back.

Koroma scored seven points around two Sweatman free kicks to get the dolphins within 14 for the last time with 8:53 back, but Central Connecticut State scored responded with a 7-1 race to take its first 20-point lead. Jones made two bad shots, McGlone hit a three-pointer (ccsus only of the second half after 11 in the first half) and then Jones made a lay-up with 6:56 back.

Fouts scored five points around a Momoh free kick, and then Amica made a jumper and a junior guard Zek Tekin (Istanbul, Turkey/Ozel Esenkent Okaynus Anadolu Lisesi/Siena) Converted a free throw as the dolphins made one last push.

After Koroma made a lay-up to get the dolphins within 15 for the last time with 3:17, Haid had two dunks in 13 seconds, and then Jones made two free kicks for an 86-66 lead.

Redshirt Sophomore Guard Kaelin Thomas (Binghamton, Ny/Seton Catholic) Made a free throw with 45 seconds back to Dolphins’ last point of the season.
