Dennis Allen may be looking to reunite with an old friend

Chicago Bears has focused on the offensive side of the ball to start the off -season, which should not surprise anyone. Ben Johnson took over as a principal coach with the express purpose of setting the offense. To do that, he needs players. The trades of Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney reflect this. However, do not expect them to ignore the defense. It also needs help. Dennis Allen calls the shot there. Without a doubt, GM Ryan Poles will acquire for any list of requests he may have. It potentially includes signing players he has worked with before.

All of them continue to mention names like Khalil Mack and Chase Young. Allen worked with both Oakland and New Orleans. Moe Moton of Bleacher -Report believes there is another name out there that could soon be available to the Bears defensive coordinator.

As a 35-year-old, von Miller is no longer an all-down pass-rusher. He tore his ACL at the end of his first year with Buffalo Bills in 2022, and he played less than 34 percent of the defensive snaps in 2023 and 2024.

Last season Miller recorded six sacks, 16 pressure and seven tackles for loss. He can be an effective designated pass-rusher, though Mark Gaughan of Buffalo News expects the bills to release him.

However, a team with lots of Cap space like Chicago Bears may be willing to acquire the 14-year-old veteran.

People will immediately look at Miller’s age and believe that he is past his starring role. That’s true. He is not the dominant power he was in the mid -2010s. That said, Miller still managed six sacks and 40 pressure last season only 249 Pass Rush Snaps. You would have wrong if you think he can no longer affect quarterback.

Dennis Allen knows what Miller can do.

The two worked together during the future Hall of Famers Rookie season in 2011. He had 11.5 sacks that season, tied to the sixth most sacks of a first-year player ever. He is also an experienced veteran with a long track record to win. He has been in the playoffs seven times in his career and won the Super Bowls with Broncos in 2015 and Rams in 2021. The bears are still talking about raising the level of expectations in the building. Miller would definitely do that.

What no one knows is what the man himself wants. If Buffalo releases him for free cap space, the question becomes whether he is interested in still playing. He has his rings. He has made lots of money in his career. There would not be much incentive to join the bears unless he just wants to continue playing. It’s definitely an option. Dennis Allen would at least get a proven item that gives depth to their Pasrush for this season. Nor would it prevent them from investing a high choice at the position of the draft.
