Tony Skinn (’06) appointed finalist for Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award

Fairfax, VA. And George Mason University Men’s Basketball Head coach Tony Skin (’06) has been appointed finalist for the prestigious Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award, which is awarded annually to the Division of the Head coach who wins with integrity on and off the field.

This year’s Skip Prosser Man of the Year, distributed by collegeinsider.com, honor those who not only achieve success on the basketball court, but who also show moral integrity on and off it. Other finalists include Rick Barnes (Tennessee), Jon Scheyer (Duke) and Shaka Smart (Marquette).

In addition to this honor, Skinn has also been appointed finalist for the Ben Jobe Award, which was awarded for the country’s top div. In Minority Head Coach. Last season he was named finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award, which was given to the top of the country, the first time div. I head coach.

This season, Skinn has led the patriots to the best season in the program’s A-10 story. The Green & Gold has set a new school record for Atlantic 10 League wins (14) and started League Play 12-1 for the first time in the program’s 59-year history. The Patriots have reached 23 wins for regular season for the first time since 2011-12 and have locked a double town (and top-2 seeds) in the A-10 championship for the first time in school history.

George Mason’s 17 home winners are a school record. The Patriots also swept their A-10 Home Plan (9-0) for the first time ever and won five-like A-10 road games for the first time in program Annals. The team’s 11-game victory from 8 January-Feb. 18 was the second longest in the nation at the time and was just the fourth 10+ game -winning row in school history.

Skinn is the fastest George Mason coach for 40 wins in school history, and his A-10 winner percentage (.657) is by far the best in the program’s 12 years in the league. His total winning percentage (.694) is the best of any George Mason trainer over their first two seasons in Fairfax.

The patriots have excelled in close games under Skinn’s leadership. The Green & Gold is 6-0 in their last five competitions, decided by five points or smaller and 3-0 in their last three overtime games.

In addition, the Patriots’ elite defense is ranked 22nd National and the program is in the top-10 in the field target percentage defense and 2PT defense. The team’s cumulative FG defense is currently tracking like a George Mason school post, while its 3pt -defense is second best all the time.

The Patriots have sent 20+ wins in each of Skinn’s first two seasons at the helm of the program. He was a finalist last season for the Joe B. Hall Award, given annually to the best first -year head coach in the nation.

When he combines his years as a student athlete (3) and as a main coach (2), rail has a total of 109-50 (.686) record over his five seasons in Fairfax.

This year’s Skip Presses Man of the Year Honor those who not only achieve success on the basketball court, but who also show moral integrity on and off it.

In six years of the deacons, Prosser published a record of 126-68. In his career, he was 291-146 for 14 seasons including six as the head coach of Xavier and one year at Loyola (Md.). In Wake Forest, Prosser’s team was an average of 21 wins per year. Season, while playing in undoubtedly the country’s most difficult league, the Atlantic Coast conference. Prosser won 100 matches at an ACC school faster than all except two coaches in the conference’s 55-year history.

He coached NBA stars Chris Paul and Josh Howard, led Demon Deacons to the first No. 1 National Ranking in the school’s history and served ACC coach for the year in 2003. Prosser died of a seemingly heart attack on July 26, 2007 in his office at Wake Forest. He had just returned from his morning jog.

This year’s over the award for 2025 Skip Prosser Man of the Year will be advertised in San Antonio, TX, the site of Men’s Division in the Basketball Championship.
