Katherine Legge must be the first woman to run the NASCAR CUP race since ’18

Katherine Legge gets her NASCAR CUP series to debut this weekend on the Phoenix Raceway and will be the first woman to compete in a cup series ran since Danica Patrick on the Daytona 500 2018.

The 44-year-old LEGGE, who is a resident of England, runs No. 78 Chevrolet in Sunday’s Shriners children 500, announced Live Fast Motorsports Monday.

Legge has five career starts in the NASCAR XFINITY series, most recently on Road America in 2023.

“Entering the Nascar Cup series is a dream come true,” Legge said. “Racing Stock Cars has been an incredibly fun and new challenge that has given me a renewed sense of power for this sport. As always, I am grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and am inspired by all efforts, preparation and behind the scenes it takes to get hit.”

Legge has been running in several series over the years, including the Seven Indycar series starts last season. She has four career starts in the Indianapolis 500 and by 2023 sets a record for the fastest qualifying time of a woman.

Legge ended 39. In Arca Ride ‘Dente Race at Daytona International Speedway last month after being involved in an early accident.

She will be sponsored in Phoenix by Venture Studio DROPLIGHT and Sherfick Companies, a real estate and construction development business.

Legge is one of nine women who have been running in the Indy 500. She has four career victories in Sports Car Racing and has participated in Rolex 24 in Daytona. Legge has also competed in Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
