High point announces contract extension for Alan Huss

High Point, NC – High Point University President Dr. Nido R. Qbein and Vice President and Athletic Director Dan Hauser are proud to advertise a contract extension for HPU -Man’s Basketball Head Trainer Alan Huss.

“Coach Huss and his staff have done an extraordinary job of building a winning program that is both talented and values-centered,” President Qubein said. “We are happy to renew his contract and to ensure that his coaching staff remains intact. As HPU is our basketball team and their coaches focused on being excellent on and off the field. We are very proud of them.”

In Huss’ two seasons at the helm, he has collected and gathered a record of 53-14 with a 27-5 Big South record, which became the fastest coach in the Big South story to reach 50 wins in just 64 games.

No other trainer has done what Coach Huss has only two seasons. The program’s first ever two-time Big South Coach of the Year turned around a under .500 program and led Panthers to Back-to-Back Direct Big South Regular Seasons for the first time in program history. High Point became the first team in Big South since 2011 (Coastal Carolina) to win back-to-back direct ordinary seasonal titles.

Panthers has sent two back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in the DI era and the sixth 20-win season in the program history. At home, Panthers has protected the extraordinary QBEIN center with only three losses that have placed a record of 31-3. In back-to-back seasons, Panthers set the non-conference vessel record since he became a division in 1999, registering 11 wins in 2023-24 and 12 wins in 2024-25.

In the 2024-25 season, HPU ended 26-5 in the regular season with a 14-2 league record. The 26th Sage of the season is the most in the program history and tied the Big South season Saying Record with Coastal Carolina’s season 2010-11 (26-4). Panthers also put the best winning percentage in the Division I-era with an 88 percent victory percentage in conference games and an 84 percent victory percentage in the regular season.

Coach Huss started its first season with a total record of 27-9, which are the most victories of a first-year head coach in the program history, and most wins in HPU’s NCAA Division in ERA. Coach Huss led all 31 rookie head coaches across the country with 27 wins.


After 2023-24 Big South Tournament, Panthers made their first post-season tournament performance since the 2015-16 season at College Basketball Invitational in Daytona Beach, Florida, and ended as runner-up.


At one point during the season, Panthers held the longest active victory feature in the country with 12 -like wins (December19 -7 February), which is the longest victory in division in program history. Currently, High Point is on an 11-match victory feature on the way into 2024-25 Big South Tournament.


By 2023-24, Coach Huss was appointed a “Mid-Season” recipient for 2024 Joe B. As a team, High Point was named the area 68 mid -professional teams of the week on February 6, 2024 with Indiana State.


Overall, Coach Huss has produced seven Big South All-Conference players along with a 2x defensive player of the year, a newcomer of the year and the beginner of the year. Kezza Giffa were appointed to 2024-25 Big South Preseason Player of the Year and Kimani Hamilton was named a first team’s first team recipients of all-conference. Both Giffa and Hamilton were also named Bracketeer Preseason All-American.


Panthers has collected nine week’s Big South players and 13 Big South Freshman of the Week Awards over two seasons, which Juslin Bodo Bodo Recorded nine beginner of this week’s awards in 2023-24 for a large south and program record in a single season.
