Pittsburgh Steelers to give offers to Vikings QB

As it seems to be more and more likely that Justin Fields will reach free agency, Pittsburgh Steelers is considering their other options in the Quarterback position.

A source has told Steelers about SI that Steelers intends to explore an offer to Sam Darnold. Athletic’s Dianna Russini has also reported that the team is expected to make an offer when free agency begins.

“Steelers are expected to offer an offer for pending free agent Sam Darnold per source,” Russini wrote at X.

“Many around the league believe that Darnold will win up in Seattle, but Pittsburgh is doing his Due Diligence on any options ahead of the new corpse.”

As Russini noticed, Darnold’s Seahawks’ top goal after they traded Geno Smith to Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday.

Still, Pittsburgh at least places himself within the race for his services after a breakout 2024 campaign with Minnesota Vikings, where he threw in 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 cuts.

Darnold’s plays tense towards the end of the year, but he is unanimously seen as the top signal call available in the open market this season.

Fields and Steelers are not yet because of common grounds in contract negotiations, and with the New York Jets threatening as a real threat to landing him, the team may be forced to turn.
