Three Gophers Wrestlers move on to Championship matches at Big Ten Tournament

Three Gophers – Gable Steveson, Max McEnelly and Vance Vombaur – went on to the championship matches in their weight classes on the Big Ten Wrestling Championships Saturday in Evanston, ill.

Gophers is in fourth place in the team’s location with 88.5 points on the way into Sunday’s final. Penn State leads with 145 points. Nebraska is number two with 118.5 and Iowa third with 98.

In the championship match of 184 pounds, Max McEnelly faces the Penn State’s Carte Starocci. Mcenelly defeated Edmond Ruth from Illinois 11-3, and Starocci defeated Maryland’s Jaxon Smith 12-2 to reach the final.

Vombaur is facing Nebraskas Brock Hardy in the final of £ 141. Vombaur defeated top seed Beau Bartlett from Penn State 5-3 to move on.

In the semi-finals of £ 157, Ohio State’s Brandon Cannon Tommy Asky defeated Gophers 10-3.

Gophers 197-Pund Isaiah Salazar, who won the 184-pound big ten title last season, lost in the quarterfinals to Zac Braunagel in Illinois 10-4.
