3 Observations after Sixers Ride on their Bench to Victory Over Jazz – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Sixers defeated a slow start by picking up a win on Sunday night over the Cellar residence Jazz.

They won a 126-122 victory at Wells Fargo Center and moved to 22-41 this season. Utah fell to 15-49.

Lonnie Walker IV placed 25 points, a career high 11 rebounds and five assists.

Quentin Grimes had 25 points and six assists. Jared Butler added 15 points to 5-for-8 shooting and nine assists.

Both teams had a comprehensive list of players out with injuries. The Sixers stars Paul George (Left groin tenderness) and Tyrese Maxey (Sub -ridges) remained sideways.

Sixers -Head coach Nick Nurse said the first name that Kyle Lowry’s wounded right hip has felt “much better.” Nurse said the team would reassess Lowry’s status after Monday evening’s game in Atlanta against Hawks.

Here are observations about Sixers’ win Sunday:

Young Jazz jumps on Sixers

The youthful jazz severely exceeded the Sixers in the opening dinner.

Rookie Utah Point Guard Isaiah Collier stole the ball from Grimes and took the other way off for one and a layup. Rookie Center Kyle Filipowski made two three-Pointers over other drummonds. And after Drummond missed his own attempt at his own, Filipowski ran in front of the package and threw one and a thump down.

His free throw gave jazz a 19-10 lead. Utah’s advantage grew up to 16 points in the first quarter. Jazz scored the night’s first eight points off revenue and Sixers struggled to get any kind of footing in the game.

Sixers’ defense had almost no early success and broke down regularly. As soon as Sixers switched to zone, second -year jazz guard Keyonte George broke past all for a light set up.

All-Bench Unit makes the rush

Nurse turned to an all-bending lineup late in the first quarter. Butler, Walker, Ricky Council IV, Alex Reese and Adem Bona did quite well as a device and ate in Utah’s lead.

Butler played Pesky on-ball defense and placed seven points in the first quarter, including a corner three and a transition lineup of 1.2 seconds back in the period. Bona brought her typical energy and eagerness to swat shots. Reese converted a Put-Back Layup and took a fee.

For good reason, nurse is stuck with the same lineup to begin the second quarter. A brief councilor trimmed Sixers’ deficit to 32-31. Jeff Dowtin Jr. replaced Butler early in the second quarter, made a forward lay-in and added 10 quick points.

At the break, Sixers held a 32-13 edge in the bench scoring.

Young players like Bona and Butler should receive more chances of playing rotational minutes over the season’s home. They handled the opportunity nicely on Sunday.

Nurse keeps an eye on minutes

Guerschon Yabusele Subbed out on the 4:49 mark in the first quarter and did not see the floor again before the start of the second half. He was scoreless in 12 minutes.

Nurse said before the game he will monitor playing time for Tung-Minuts Sixers this season as Yabusele and Oubre in the coming weeks. Drummond, who had been questionable to go into the game due to an illness, did not play in the second half.

Yabubel began the third quarter in the center and Walker started. Utah’s defense was leaking and the Sixers warmed up from three-point reach. Butler lowered two jumpers in a row, and Bona then gladly split a George Runner attempt. Bona noted her first career-double-double, and voted 14 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

Walker continued to produce and Sixers passed the 100-point mark late in the third quarter. They went up 21 on a Reese three early in the fourth.

Sixers didn’t have a pleasant last quarter. Nurse Subbed Grimes back in the council around the midpoint during the period. Utah cut down her deficit to six points with just under five minutes left.

The jazz never let the Sixers coast to the buzzer.

Filipowski hit a three with 2.8 seconds left to trim the Sixers’ lead to two. After a timeout, Justin Edwards threw an incoming passport to Butler. It appeared at first glance that Butler may have fumbled the ball outside the boundaries, but an official’s notification clearly showed that the last affected George.

Utah intentionally went Walker with 0.8 seconds left, and he finally sealed the deal by knocking down both of his free kicks and securing Sixers’ third win since the beginning of February.
