The latest season of “American Idol” premieres Sunday at ABC with three judges – recurring celebrities Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan and former “American Idol” champion Carrie Underwood.

“20 years ago I tried after the judges of @americanidol, and today I am now one of the judges looking for someone who wants to be an idol!” Underwood wrote in a social media post in August.

The show will conduct a nationwide search to find the most talented amateur singers in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville. After judges and viewers narrow the participants’ field, a winner will appear, secure a record deal and participate in the ranks of colleagues “idol” winners, including Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Scotty McCreery and others.
