Mark Cuban was sorry Mavs about Luka Doncic-Laker’s trade: ‘Get a better deal’

A month after Dallas Maverick’s stunned world by trading Luka Dončić for Los Angeles Lakers, former team governor Mark Cuban shared some thoughts about the move.

Cuban, who appeared at ABC -linked WFAA in Dallas (starts at 6:30 am), Cuban said it was at Mavs to “get a better deal” when they first made the decision to move Dončić.

Cuban explained that he did not try to respect Anthony Davis as a headliner in the deal, but Mavs should have negotiated a trade with four unprotected elections on top of Davis and Max Christie.

The Full information Of the trade, Dallas then receives Davis, Christie and a draft of the first round from 2029 from Los Angeles to Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris. Utah Jazz was also included in the deal and received Jalen Hood-Schifino and two 2025 drafts of the second round.

Mavericks’ whole approach to Dončić trade confused. Instead of trying to create a bidding war among the other 29 teams in the NBA, they tried to give lectures as secret as possible.

Athletic’s Fred Katz, Joe Vardon and Sam Amick On February 3, reported that Mavs had only “deep negotiations” with Lakers, though they called at least another team to inquire about their interest in switching Dončić to another star level player.

Mavs General Manager Nico Harrison quoted Trade as an improvement in the team’s title window for the next three to four seasons, even though they just reached the NBA final last season with Dončić as their best player.

Per Espns Tim Macmahon (H/T ESPN’s Dave McMenamine), Mavericks had also been frustrated by Dončić’s “Discipline about his diet and conditioning,” which they thought had been a contributing factor in his injury question.

A problem with Harrison’s logic is the age difference between the two central pieces of the agreement. Dončić turned 26 on February 28; Davis will be 32 years on March 11.

Davis has had injury problems throughout his career and has only played one game for Dallas since the trade due to an adductor strain. Dončić has had some concerns about durability in his career until this point, but the combination of his age and incredibly high level of performance through his first seven seasons makes him the type of player you almost never see traded in the NBA.

Dallas’ title chances this season apparently went out the window on Tuesday when it was revealed Kyrie Irving LED a torn ACL In Monday’s loss to Sacramento Kings.

Irving’s injury has led to speculation that Davis could be closed for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Lakers is 8-2 with Dončić in the starting lineup and has won eight straight matches together. They have vaulted up to second place in the western conference.

It is safe to assume whether Cuban was still in place as Mavs -Governor that trade with Dončić is something that would never have been considered by the organization.
