Liberal Leadership Race: Mark Carney elected in landslides to be the next prime minister

Carney is not the prime minister yet. He is the prime minister. We do not know exactly when he will be sworn to the office, but it is very likely to be in the next few days.

Transition call to determine who will work in Carney’s Prime Minister’s Office, have already taken place, sources have told CBC News.

He has no room in the lower house, so there is speculation – and Carney has suggested – that he will soon call an election before Parliament is scheduled to return on March 24.

Before Carney does, Carney will have to designate a closet. Whether he holds Trudeau’s current cabinet pretty much in place or installs new faces for what may be a very short time will be something to look at.

But it is clear that Carney’s more than 85 percent voting share gives him a powerful mandate from liberals to set the course he chooses.
